A little U2 pun there....Anyways, its been a long time since I played SoMI, and I wonder: Is it posslible to throw objects into the cauldron (black cooking pot on the ship) that you need later in the game to proceed??? I mean, is it possible to screw up your chances to complete the game, cause you lost vital items earlier in hte game?? A buddy told me that was possible in MI1. I have not discovered this possibility in other MI games though........[ This Message was edited by: Dalixam on 2001-12-28 12:49 ]

Wrong - you CAN get stuck by throwing an inappropriate object into the cauldron. In particular, the dusty book (which I did by accident a few months back). Without that I don't think there's any way to light the cannon, and you can't get to Monkey Island.Of course my memory could be hazy, maybe I'm wrong...

You are wrong Ryback :smile:Other things beside the dusty book can be used to put into the fire for use as a light for the cannon. Stan's business card for instance.

Raven, you seem almost paranoid about spamming...take it easy.

**looks above**well, the above was more about SHAME...most especially if viking had to go back to a previously saved_game because I have a bad memory. I STILL have a strong memory of trying to burn everything in inventory, and Guybrush guiding me saying either: "Glad to finally be rid of this" or "Maybe I'll need this later" ...but two people contradicting me is enough to doubt myself. SPAM was not an issue, here.Paranoia, huh? I can't deny it...but I think you have the symptomology wrong. I AM paranoid about being a hypocrite FIRST...the spamming falls into that category. In other forums, I have made no bones about my dis-like of SPAMMING, as well as graphic signatures, and many other newbie things..That being said, since I hate SPAMMING, I try to do it as little as possible. Nothing more disgusting to me than someone who says one thing and does another. Hypocracy!...So, I do curb my tongue sometimes...I don't post everything that comes to mind, unless I have something relevent to say...and I can present a substantiated point. However, your point is taken...I have added a little warning of: "This is Spam" before I go on with a pointless message. I guess I want everyone to know that I KNOW the difference. This IS paranoia!, and I recognize that ..I'll relax a little, thanx[ This Message was edited by: raVen_image on 2001-07-24 16:28 ]

Actually, Raven, you and Matt were both right and I was wrong. Thing is, I always used the dusty book as fuel to light the cannon, then one time I accidently put it in the mix. Never thought of using anything *else* to light the fuse. I just tried that section again, and while nothing of Stan's worked, the dancing lessons/map turned out to serve the purpose quite well (and Guybrush will not allow you to put them in the cauldron before the spell works).

I am a bit confused...Why is everybody talking about spam, which is 'unsocialised mail'. I learned that what you call spam is flooding.Because by messages like this one (oops!), you can't see the forest trough the tree (edited thanks to haggis). It's the same if I would send so many e-mails to my friend (an e-mail bomb) I am flooding his ISP's mail server and his mailbox.Anyway, if I am correct then you're all a bunch of newbies, even you raVen_image (I had to dare you sometime soon anyway). If I am wrong then I am very sorry for spamming this topic and I will apologize to everyone.hehe! Is that a deal or what?[ This Message was edited by: Haxaty on 2001-08-18 15:00 ]

You are correct Haxaty, in terms of e-mail"SPAM" has different meanings in different media. In the case of a forum or posting-board, it means a pointless post. One sentence, one word, or in some weird cases ONE LETTER?!? I have seen this too.If you take the time to post a message, you should at least have some reasonable support for your opinion. Saying "I agree" only ...or "yep" ...or "K" is SPAM, unless you support your assertion.I am not above spamming, though. Mostly, mine are little quips and jokes, that simply refuse to remain in my mind ...and spill out onto the keyboard. They aren't useful information ...they are simply jokes. So, I have spammed, but you will NEVER see me posting "chat-room" lingo though."OMG" BTW" "LOL" "ROFLMAO" <-- These are acronyms to save time; shorthand more akin to a chatroom. Shorthand is not true communication. This is why we have silly topics like "link on" --it's a thread for those who feel the need to SPAM. Before you all jump down my throat, let me allow THE BARD to sum up my feelings:
I'll tell thee what, Prince:A college of wit-crackers cannot flout me out of my humour.Doust thou think I care for a satire or an epigram? No.For I do purpose to SPAM and I will think nothing to any purpose that the world can say against it; and thereforeNEVER flout at me for what I HAVE said against it.For man is a giddy thing, and THIS is my conclusion.
OK...shakespear didn't say "spam" but the sentiment is still valid.[ This Message was edited by: raVen_image on 2001-08-18 16:49 ]

I agree!lolno...wait...you didn't say anything about flooding...so I am going to wait with apologizing :razz:I don't even think I have to apologize, because I was partly right, wasn't I?Not that I don't want to, but I only want to do it if I am totally (that could take a while) convinced.[ This Message was edited by: Haxaty on 2001-08-19 07:26 ]
