Discuss everything from the story to Largo LaGrande's hair.

Winning the spitting contest was always one of the hardest things to do! Even after "cheating" by replacing the flags, it's still hard to clear first place.

I found figuring how to defeat LeChuck incredibly difficult I was thinking voodoo doll but then I had no idea how to get the items. The other hard part was finding Largo's bra, i searched his room endlessly looking for the laundry ticket, finally shut the door and ended hours of frustration.

I didn't really find the window part hard, i just noticed it as i ran my cursor over it.

Ok I didn't know where to say this but I figured it was a bad idea to open up a thread. Anyway, I have just finished MI 2 for the first time and I'll be honest here: I did NOT like it. First, this was the hardest adventure game I've ever played, and often a pain in the ass because of silly ideas that are there I felt just so you never get to the end! What was that man! And the ending? People are seriously complaining about ToMI's giant manatee ending? Nothing is clear about Ron Gilbert's ending to his sequel and he probably wanted it that way. The whole thing progresses logically supposedly going after the treasure of Big Whoop, but what happens from LeChuck's fortress and on? I'm sorry to say I did not like it one bit, it's like you've done all of the hard work until you get to a point where you feel you're being mocked! How did Elaine guess what was happening and slide down a rope to chat with Guybrush? The whole Lechuck scenario was absurd IMO, and that connection with Melee Island? What's the secret? What's Big Whoop? What happened there? Until I get a clear explanation from somebody, there's a big question mark on the series I've loved for so long (apart from LCR).

Since when was realism a big part of MI? It is explained in game that she hears the explosion and travels to Dinky because of it. And the ending was designed so a sequel could be made, it never came, but that was the intention. Melee Island? I don't really see the point of it being necessary.... The secret is never explained... Big Whoop is a ticket to a ride at a theme park it seems, although I guess it was supposed to be explained next game. Ultimately it's up to you if you like it or not, some people love MI2 (me), whereas some hate it (KR), well dislike.

And KR is right backlash! MI2 IS AWESOME!

I don't believe I ever said I disliked it. It's just my 2nd to least favorite (which is NOT to say I don't like it still), behind MI4 (which I don't even hate, just have discontents with).

I find the whole game to be a doosie.
You get next to no clues how to solve the puzzles and no directions on where to go next. Not complaining, i just think that it's a bit to merciless on it's players.

Thats just how i recall it tho. Haven't played it for almost a year. Will give it a new try soon.
Maybe i shall pick the light mode first and it will make more sense to me.
Played it through on "normal" the first time.

None of the games had clues. Except for MI: SE, which came out last year. But that's probably because it needed to be dumbed down for some people of this generation. After trying few puzzles and not figuring out, they'd just say "OMG THIS GAME IS SOO HARD, THIS IS SO CRAP" and then turn it off and never play it again.

It's a true story.

The games are unbelievably difficult compared to some modern ones, but in the context of the time, they weren't particularly difficult, play any other adventure from LA from that time and it makes it seem common place to have no help :)

Well i like a challenge so the difficulty of these games is just welcome. But sometimes i just get frustrated by it.
Never to the point of shutting the game down and never play it again, just to that level of "Gotta beat this, i can't be beaten by a game." And the satisfaction of finding out how to do is worth all the "pain"

hate games that hold you by the hand and almost in itself is a walktrough.
Apart from being insulting to ones mind it's just tedious and boring.

I gave up for a while on that one!!!!!

That means that you wouldn't have been able to get the Largo doll either, you'd be missing his hair and he clothes, for both items you need access to his room, and to get access to his room you need the knife.

The hardest part for me was 'How to use the pump on Phatt Island to stop the Waterfall', for these reasons

a) The player gets a slight clue that the cottage off the coast of Phatt, may belong to Mister Rogers.
b) There is no clue that you have to stop the waterfall (I thought that I had to cross it).
c) There is no clue about what the Pump does (Guybrush says, "What's this doing in a Pirate game) - Thanks Guybrush. He could have said "It seems to control the flow of the Waterfall" maybe.
d) There is no clue about what to use with the pump.
e) There is no clue about putting a Banana on the metronome.
f) There is no clue about picking up the hypnotized monkey.
g) There is no clue about it serving as a 'monkey wrench'.
h) The pump can be tricky to find in the first place.

The whole thing seems illogical.

If there are clues for the above, I'd love to hear them.

OMG I JUST POSTED ABOUT THIS IN ANOTHER THREAD.

CURSE YOU RON GILBERT!!!

Yes the ending also evoked further curses at Ron Gilbert.
