MI2 SE Problem

I was busy getting the stuff for the voodoo doll of Largo LaGrande, and I went into his room to do the whole clothes thing. However, being new to the game, I wasn't quick enough to do this before Largo came back, but now I can't get back in as he won't leave and now I'm stuck. Does anyone know how to fix this, or will I have to restart? I tried the hints (they just said go back in) and the walkthrough (doesn't mention anything) so now I've come here.

P.S. What do you need to soil the clothes anyways? That bit kinda stumps me too...

To soil the clothes you need a good old fashioned trick involving a door. Once you have all the ingredients necessary for this trick, I think he'll leave.

If this means nothing to you, you need to get a bucket full of mud, and put it over the door.

The problem is, I went straight in, walked a bit further without doing that trick, BAM he comes in, shoos me out, and he's still there when trying to get back in. And he's not coming out.

Can you get another ingredient and come back?

Have you tried leaving the 'motel' completely (so you're back in the town) and then going back in? I think he'll be gone then. I remember being in the same situation once.

And if he does happen to leave, and you get in, shut the door immediately, I find it gives you longer in the room. At least it did in the original version of the game.
